Seeking Guidance on Career Choices in Law
As part of our ongoing Career Conundrums series, a future lawyer is seeking input on whether to proceed with their training in London and the potential consequences of exploring alternative training contracts.
Last year, I made the decision to join the Manchester branch of a nationwide law firm for my training contract. Despite this, the allure of London has always been strong, and this year, I found myself applying to various firms in the capital.
Having progressed to further stages with several London firms, I now find myself questioning whether I’ve made the correct choice. I’m eager to hear what your readers think about the benefits of training with a regional firm compared to one in London. What impact could this decision have on my future career opportunities once I am qualified?
Another issue that concerns me is the possibility that my current firm might discover my applications to other firms and decide to withdraw their offer. How likely is that to happen? Additionally, could this action be seen as deceptive, and might it tarnish the start of my career in law?
I am apprehensive about beginning my legal journey on potentially shaky ground and would greatly appreciate your readers’ advice and perspectives.
