A Qantas cleaner faces disciplinary action after she refused to clean a plane that had carried passengers who potentially had swine flu at Sydney International Airport on Wednesday night. The airline had previously issued a warning to staff that swine flu could remain active on surfaces for up to 48 hours According Transport Workers Union, the cleaner had spoken with a quarantine officer who had told her: "I've just taken somebody off the plane with suspected swine flu". "There was an argument with Qantas management about her right not to go on the flight," said union federal secretary Tony Sheldon, adding that the cleaner believed she did not have adequate protective equipment. A Qantas spokesperson defended the airline's strict health and hygiene standards and denied the cleaner had been threatened with dismissal.
