For the second year in a row Singapore’s Changi has been voted the world’s best airport, according to a global poll of air travellers conducted by Skytrax.
The survey is based on nearly 13.02 million customer opinions from 112 different nationalities, accounting for 550 airports worldwide.
It is the largest global airport customer satisfaction survey.
Satisfaction indicators include airport service, check-in processes, shopping facilities, and security, among others. The award marks Changi’s fifth total win of top honours and is in line with the airport’s continual upgrade efforts including in-terminal movie theatres, art installations, and a butterfly garden.
The airport has also recently announced plans to launch innovative self-boarding next month.
Following Changi for the second year is Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.
Munich Airport rises three positions from last year to round out the top three.
Asia the big winner
Every year since 1999, Skytrax has set out to uncover which airports, according to the public, rank as the world’s best when evaluated across different traveller experiences, from check-in and immigration systems to entertainment facilities and overall cleanliness.
A completely independent survey with no outside sponsorship, payment, or influence of any sort, Skytrax’s World Airport Survey is one of the most reliable airport customer studies in the industry.
Asia won itself some considerable bragging rights with six of the 10 best airports.
Surprisingly, no North American airports made it in the rankings. Vancouver International Airport dropped two spots and out of the top 10 from last year’s rank in ninth place.
Australia had three airports in the Top 25 – Brisbane Airport (20), Sydney Airport (21) and Melbourne Airport (25).
