Singapore’s Changi Airport has been voted the world’s best airport by travellers for the second year in a row.  

The award, announced at the 2014 World Airport Awards held recently in Barcelona,  marks Changi’s fifth win of top honors in total.  

Changi Airport enjoyed double success at the Awards, also being named as Best Airport for Leisure Amenities.  

Mr Lee Seow Hiang, Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport Group said: “At Changi Airport, we remain steadfast in anticipating the needs of our customers, which is the cornerstone of the Changi Experience.”  

Changi was recognized for its regular upgrades including in-terminal movie theatres, art installations, and a butterfly garden. The airport has also announced plans to soon launch innovative self-boarding.  

Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, was named the runner-up – also for the second year in a row.  

And Munich Airport rose three positions from last year to round out the top three.  

Munich also won an award for the Best Airport in Europe, while Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was voted the World’s Best Domestic Airport.  

Auckland Airport was a repeat winner at the 2014 awards. For the 6th year running it was named the Best Airport in Australia/Pacific region.  

Copenhagen Airport won the award for World’s Best Airport Security and Hong Kong International Restaurant was recognized as World’s Best Airport Dining.  News_Changi named world's best airport3

Best airport shopping  

And for the third successive year Abu Dhabi International Airport was named as the Best Airport in the Middle East. The airport also took home the award for Best Staff Service in the Middle East for the second time, having previously won in 2011.  

Qatar AirwaysPremium Terminalwas recognized for Best Premium Service Facilities for the fourth consecutive year.

London's Heathrow Airport was again selected by customers as having the World's Best Airport Shopping, and doubled up on their success with Terminal 5 being named the World's Best Airport Terminal.  

The World Airport Awards, conducted by Skytrax, are based on 12.85 million customer nominations across 110 nationalities of air travellers, and included 410 airports worldwide.  

The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and product – from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure at the gate.
