The Federal Government has allocated funding to nine wheat exporters under the new Wheat Export Technical Market Support Grants scheme, designed to help businesses with the export marketing reforms. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke announced that more than $180,000 had been allocated in the first round. Of the nine exporters, five were first time exporters. "Supporting these exporters will underpin jobs in the wheat industry and help to cushion the impact of the global recession on regional Australia," said Burke said. "These projects will help to build long-term export relationships with customers across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa." The grants come under the Government’s $9.37 million assistance package to help the Australian wheat industry make the transition to the new system. Up to $200,000 is available each year for the three-year program to help wheat exporters deliver effective technical market support to international customers.
