Northern Territory Minister for Business Chris Burns believes that Australian exports to Japan will not suffer despite the Asian giant's current recession. In Tokyo to meet with Inpex, the Japanese company that plans to build a multi-billion-dollar liquid natural gas pipeline in Darwin, Burns expressed confidence that the project would continue as planned. "We're very confident, despite the global economic situation, that Inpex is going ahead. It's a very important project for the Japanese," he said. "It's all about their energy requirements for the domestic market, and it's full steam ahead." While in Asia, Burns also visited the Vietnamese Minister for Agriculture to discuss live cattle exports and an increase in animal welfare standards in the developing nation.
