Australian and New Zealand cities rank among the best in the world for quality of life, according to the latest results from the 2009 Worldwide Quality of Living Survey, conducted by a global HR company Mercer. Robert Knox, Head of Mercer’s information product solutions business, said that economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region outstrips most other parts of the world. "Multinationals can send their star performers Down Under to gain experience in a mature market, but on the doorstep of, and with exposure to, fast moving regions in the world - while at the same time providing the benefits and security of living in Australia or New Zealand," he said. Auckland, New Zealand topped the Asia-Pacific list, tying with Vancouver, Canada for fourth on the overall rankings. Sydney came in second in Asia-Pacific and ranked 10th overall. The survey assesses 39 criteria for each city, using New York as a benchmark. Criteria include political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and public services. All Australian and New Zealand cities ranked higher than New York. For more survey results, see www.mercer.com.au/qualityofliving
