Analysis conducted by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) shows that agriculture exports are holding up well despite the economic downturn, particularly in Queensland. ABARE chief commodity analyst Terry Sheales says a combination of a "strong demand for our food and fibre commodities around the world" and the declining Australian dollar has put agriculture in a comparatively good position. However, agriculture exports may experience dampened demand from the North Asian market, particularly Japan and Korea.
