USA presses China on clean energy tariffs

USA presses China on clean energy tariffs article image

US officials yesterday urged China to lower their tariffs on clean energy technology as part of the two countries' actions to combat climate change. "Both China and the US have much to lose from potentially devastating impacts of climate change, but much to gain by partnering to develop clean energy technologies that will power our economy by cutting carbon emissions," said David Sandalow, assistant secretary of energy for policy and international affairs. US Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke will travel to China to discuss ways in which the commercial sector could address climate change through areas such as wind power, energy efficiency, clean coal and modernising the electric grid. In addition to high tariff barriers, they will also discuss protecting intellectual property rights related to clean energy technology.
