Singapore Airlines and Flight Centre impasse on fare sales

Singapore Airlines and Flight Centre impasse on fare sales article image

According to a report by national newspaper The Australian, Flight Centre will no longer actively promote Singapore Airlines fares through its outlets due to a dispute over commissions. The airline issued a warning to members of its frequent flyer program, Krisflyer, that Flight Centre may no longer offer tickets on Singapore Airlines flights. Apparently Flight Centre, a travel agency network of more than 650 outlets Australia-wide and a large online presence, told staff it would issue a 'stop sell' on Singapore Airlines and Silkair, its subsidiary. The Australian says this was due to disagreements about higher commissions. "As Singapore Airlines could not accede to all of Flight Centre's demands, we understand Singapore Airlines airfares might not be available for purchase through Flight Centre retail outlets in Australia and New Zealand," said Subhas Menon, the airline's regional vice-president for the South West Pacific. Flight Centre will still sell Singapore Airlines if requested by customers, but will no longer actively promote the airline.
