The future of Australian manufacturing will begin a makeover this week as part of the Gillard Government's Buy Australian at Home and Abroad initiative. Resources Sector Supplier Envoy, Peter Beattie is holdings meetings this week with key resources and manufacturing stake holders as part of the initiative. "The Government is working to give Australian manufacturing a strong future and helping Australian suppliers benefit from the nation's major resources projects will help us achieve that," said Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr. Mr Beattie's work is channelled towards helping Australian manufacturers win contracts for major resources projects and create jobs for Australians. As a result of the new resources Sector Supplier Envoy and resources Sector Supplier Forum, Senator Carr expects a significant increase in the opportunities of the mining boom to more Australians and more Australian businesses. Mr Beattie spoke optimistically about his new role, and the willingness of resources investors to lift Australian content in projects. "An important element of the Buy Australian at Home and Abroad initiative is to establish the Forum as quickly as possible and I will be asking industry to suggest suitable candidates," said Mr Beattie. To make submissions for consideration by the Forum, email the Innovation Department at firstname.lastname@example.org by 15 October 2011.
