The Queensland Government has committed an additional $37.8 million to tourism funding, to be spent over three years. The boost will begin with $12.6 million worth of assistance. The Gold Coast Tourism Corporation welcomed the increase, saying it would go towards marketing and infrastructure projects, such as the redevelopment of the Carrara Stadium. "Any development or increase in that portfolio not only goes to increase the number of activities that are held here but also goes to increase interest in the region as a destination that can cater for more events and more activities," said corporation spokesperson Ben Pole.
