New Zealand has accepted the Australian Government's invitation to join the Business Regulation and Competition Working Group, an organisation designed to ease the regulatory burden on businesses. NZ Commerce Minister Simon Power said participation in the group would make for trans-Tasman harmonisation and alignment: "I will be looking to use this opportunity to help achieve new levels of trans-Tasman economic integration." The group, established by the Council of Australian Governments, includes senior officials from Commonwealth, State and Territory central agencies from Australia, and now New Zealand. In addition to reducing the regulatory burden on businesses, the group also aims to deliver significant improvements to competition, productivity and international competitiveness.
