China growth will hit 8 percent article image

The Chinese government target of eight percent economic growth will be met, according to Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of the People's Bank of China, after assuring everyone that the country's economy was shaking off any signs of downturn. "We can see that in recent times it is stabilising and is actually taking a turn for the better," said Zhou. He said if the global economy does not take a turn for the worse, "the situation will continue to improve and probably we can achieve the previously set target". China's first quarter recorded a growth rate of 6.1 percent but second quarter results are expected to be slightly higher.
