Australia number one survivor of global recession: survey

Australia number one survivor of global recession: survey article image

One in five international businesspeople believe Australia has economic conditions best equipped to cope with the global recession, according to the Servcorp International Business Confidence Survey. Australia topped the list, followed by China, then with India and Singapore tied for third place. "I've noticed how relatively unaffected Australian businesses [are]," remarked Taine Moufarrige, Servcorp's executive director. "Australian businesses remain in good shape and should emerge from the global economic crisis even stronger than before." The biggest concern for Australian businesses was the negative media surrounding economic conditions. "I think the doom and gloom reports that Australians hear every day are harmful to Australian businesses and hold them back from seeing the opportunities that are present in the current economic climate," said Moufarrige. "Australian business confidence needs to be supported and encouraged in the media and by the Australian government." Conducted in April, the poll involved 7,500 responses from international businesspeople. More than two-thirds of Australian business respondents agreed with the top ranking. Servcorp provides virtual and serviced offices in more than 60 nations. Top 10 recession survivors: 1. Australia 2. China 3. India and Singapore (equal) 5. Hong Kong 6. Canada 7. Japan and Qatar (equal) 9. New Zealand 10. Malaysia, Sweden and Vietnam (equal)
