Victorian businesses have the opportunity to win a coveted stamp of approval from the Governor of Victoria Export Awards. The prestigious business awards bring legitimacy to businesses and improve access to resources and new markets, with entries open across 12 award categories for Victorian exporters of all sizes. The awards take place this year in a positive export environment, with the Victorian export industry posting robust returns in 2008/09. During this period, the value of Victoria's exports hit $33.1 billion, with real growth in the service export sector. Some of last year’s Export Award winners are making significant inroads in international markets, with Clyne Foods, which won the regional export award last year, increasing its exports of dried fruit sevenfold over five years. Last year's winner in the Information and Communications Export Award category, Tantalus, develops games for local and international markets. For CEO Tom Crago, an international outlook is essential: "The Australian market is too small to support our titles, so every deal is an international deal. This means that we are and likely always will be a one hundred per cent export company." Exporting increases both market share and company profile, and the Governor of Victoria Export awards assist Australian businesses to deliver innovative Australian product and expert service to established markets and developing countries. For example, Akcelik & Associates, a small business in Transport Software development, has plans to enter the traffic management market in the developing world. Following their win in the 2009 Governor of Victoria Export awards, managing director Dr Rahmi Akcelik has developed a five-year expansion plan. "Our focus will be to introduce our product to road traffic authorities, city councils, consultants and universities all over the world". Entries for the Governor of Victoria Export Awards close on the July 9. See www.exportawards.gov.au/vic for more details or to enter.
