VIC may export brown coal to India

VIC may export brown coal to India article image
The Victorian Government will consider a proposal to sell $700 million worth of brown coal to India a year, but will have to battle through climate change activists to do so. The 40-year proposal will require access to a new release of brown coal. Climate change protesters will meet at the Hazelwood power plant in Victoria's Latrobe Valley to demonstrate against the plan. Brown coal is not a popular export product because of its high flammability and water content, so exporting the product will require the government to develop a policy around its sale. Exergen, the company that submitted the proposal, says they have developed technology to make brown coal safer to transport.
