Tourism confidence down: survey

Tourism confidence down: survey article image
Results from the recent quarterly Tourism Industry Sentiment Survey reveal that most tourism operators predict dampened demand until at least the end of next year. Just 45 percent of tourism-related businesses expect a recovery in the second half of 2010. Tourism conditions would "remain depressed for longer than earlier expected", according to managing director of the Tourism and Transport Forum, Chris Brown. Business events and luxury travel recorded the biggest falls, although the backpacking sector and budget holidays performed well. The survey did also provide some positive news, with only 32 percent of businesses saying they would reduce staff numbers, down from 56 percent in the previous survey.
