Four tourism businesses will be contenders for tomorrow's 17th annual Telstra Business Awards, having already won at state level in the prestigious program. Queensland's tourstogo.com, Loose Goose Chalets from Western Australia, The Maria Island Walk from Tasmania, and Crowne Plaza Alice Springs, Northern Territory, are now in the running for national accolades and will contest a mixture of categories: micro-business, small business, social responsibility and innovation. Telstra Business Group managing director Deena Shiff said the tourism industry was well represented in this year’s awards and would provide some strong competition nationally. "The tourism industry stood out this year with our judges impressed by their innovation, use of technology, staff management and retention and strong commitment to corporate social responsibility," she said. National Telstra Business Awards winners will share a prize pool of $400,000 in cash and prizes. The gala event will be held in Sydney on August 20.
