New future for AIEx

The Australian Institute of Export has unveiled a new look and new name. From 25 May, the export body will operate under the title of the Export Council of Australia. All events and advocacy activities will operate under this name, while the Australian Institute of Export title will be retained for the organisation's education and training in international trade role. The change comes after 55 years operating under the AIEx title, and after extensive research. The Council will continue to represent the needs of predominantly SME exporters, with the primary purpose for the change coming about being to create a body that will represent exporters, working with other sector specific organisations to effectively engage with Government. Research with universities will be another priority for the Council, as will be forming working groups for key industry sectors in order to meet the Council's new objectives. With the Australian Institute of Export's program free to focus on education, the Institute is returning to where it started 55 years ago. The Institute will also launch a new program under the title, 'Certified Trade Professional' for companies and service providers. The comprehensive online course will allow participants to gain certification for levels achieved as they build up their skills over time. "Our manufacturing, education and tourism sectors, to name just three, are experiencing great difficulty and the light at the end of the tunnel seems quite some distance away. This is the time when we need to assess and address issues that impact on our competitiveness.  The Council looks forward to working with Government, its members, sponsors and allies to address these issues and achieve outcomes that will benefit Australia’s wellbeing," said the Export Council of Australia in its announcement statement.
