Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism Martin Ferguson travelled to the USA at the weekend as part of a government campaign to attract more foreign investment. His meetings in Los Angeles, Washington and New York, scheduled as part of the annual G'Day USA: Australia Week campaign, will be with senior policy-makers, investors, strategists and business leaders. "These briefings reflect the critical importance of foreign investment to Australia's economic growth," said Ferguson. "There are new opportunities in resources, energy and tourism for America to invest in projects which, in turn, add billions of dollars to Australia's prosperity." Ferguson hopes to leverage Australia's trade relations with Asia as part of the dealings. "Australia is set to emerge as an energy superpower-the major supplier of energy resources to the Asian region," he noted. Minister for Financial Services Chris Bowen said because of Australia's solid performance during the global economic downturn, now is an opportune time to leverage global interest in inbound investment to Australia.
