Minister urges Victorian exporters to enter awards
The Victorian Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade has called on Victorian exporters to apply for the Governor of Victoria Export Awards. The awards are part of a national program, with the State winners qualifying as finalists in the National Export Awards. "The Export Awards recognise the skill, achievement and contribution made by Victorian exporters to the state and the nation," said Dalla-Riva. "Last year our manufacturers exported goods and services worth about $31.5 billion, and supported up to 500,000 Victorian jobs." The awards, which have been running for 33 years, will be handed out in a wide range of categories, with 14 being judged this year. These include agribusiness, arts and entertainment, education and training, emerging exporter, information and communication technology, large advanced manufacturer, and regional exporter. The awards for Victorian Export Award for Innovation Excellence and Victorian Exporter of the Year are also included. "The awards are designed to recognise and reward Victoria’s most successful and innovative exporters in order to stimulate greater involvement in export among Victorian business," said Dalla-Riva. "The Export Awards promote community awareness of the importance of exports to the State’s economy." Thirteen Victorian companies received awards last year, with milk producer Longwarry Food Park taking out both the Agribusiness award and the award for Victorian Exporter of the Year after having almost doubled its exports in the 2010-11 financial year. The 2011 Victorian Export Award for Innovation Excellence was given to Ecotech, which operates the largest network of environmental monitoring systems in the southern hemisphere. The company has been exporting to more than 60 countries for 30 years. Applications for the 2012 Export Awards close on 16 July, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at Government House in Melbourne on 16 October. The national awards will be held on 27 November in Canberra. More details can be found on the Export Victoria website.
