Maersk Line shipments will have a Priority Product upgrade function for urgent shipments during busy periods when ships are expected to be full. The upgrade is a money-back loading priority offered at the time of booking, for a fee, on vessels where the demand is greater than the capacity available. "The Priority Product upgrade service will allow our customer service agents to give customers an answer at the time of booking in the case of expected full vessels rather than having customers wait only to have their booking rejected," explained David Oliver, customer service manager for Maersk Line in Australia. "When a vessel appears full customers making new bookings will be offered the opportunity to make a choice between upgrading to get their cargo on board or choosing to be booked on the next vessel with available space. Essentially this puts supply chain control back in our customers’ hands." The Priority Product upgrade fee will be priced according to the vessel space availability and market demand at the time of booking. According to Maersk Line, in the unlikely event that an upgraded shipment cannot load on the planned vessel, it will refund the cost of the upgrade and schedule the cargo for the next available departure with a free upgrade to Priority Product.
