Businesses urged to take China challenge

Businesses urged to take China challenge article image
Australian businesses are not taking China seriously enough, according to David Thomas, CEO of Think Global Consulting. Fresh from a trip to China, Thomas recounted that although Australians often went to China and had good meetings, business follow-through has been lacking. Many Chinese business leaders and ex-pat Australians thought Australia could do more in a space where the Americans, Europeans and the Brits are dominating, he reported: "Australians should go to China and show they can be world class players." Thomas launched the 88 Day China Marketing Challenge last night with his challenge partners Lisa Goodhand of China Blueprint and Anthony Moss of Incite Management Group and said it was possible for a business to prepare for entry into China in under three months with the right assistance. The challenge will involve three phases: a series of three workshops to facilitate planning and one-on-one consultation, an immersion tour including high-level meetings with relevant business and government contacts, and activation. The program has been design for small to medium businesses because smaller businesses tend to find China daunting, said Thomas: "They don't realise that if you can create a deep niche you can be successful."
