The Hong Kong - Australia Business Association (HKABA) will launch its inaugural national trade awards on 16 March 2012, announcing Cathay Pacific as its major sponsor. Formerly run as a state-based competition, the new National Business Awards will consist of a two-tiered system whereby state winners automatically become national finalists. "We are looking for the best of the best," said Bonnie Shek, Australia and New Zealand director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. "HKABA provides a very important platform for traders, importers, exporters, business executives and business professionals to come together and the business awards are a way to recognise the achievements of some of these companies doing business in Hong Kong and China." The National Awards comprise four categories:
  • Exporter of the Year
  • Importer of the Year
  • Business Development Award
  • Judges' Recognition Award
Shek, along with Linda Law of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Phil Ingram of Austrade, Roslyn Lee of Cathay Pacific, and representatives of the Hong Kong Government to be announced, will form the judging panel, to be chaired by Sir Laurence Street. "HKABA seeks to align itself with organisations which are creative, innovative and which are relentless in their efforts to enhance value in their products and the positive experience of their customers," said Lucinda Chan, HKABA national president. A gala dinner to launch the awards will be held in Sydney at Le Montage, Lilyfield on 16 March 2012.
