Sydney logistics lab attracts international interest
A new research lab co-funded by Industry & Investment NSW and the Fraunhofer Project Group in Transport & Logistics has attracted international participation.
Based in the Australian Technology Park in Sydney, Australia’s ICT Research Centre of Excellence (NICTA), the Future Logistics Living Lab aims to improve the efficiency of logistics networks by encouraging industry adoption of emerging technologies and leading research findings in areas such as rising fuel costs, road congestion, safety and the need to reduce carbon emissions.
The participants joining the founding members NICTA, enterprise software company SAP and Germany’s Fraunhofer research organisation are Linfox, Hamburg Süd, Casella Wines, Ericsson, GS1 Australia, Gamma Solutions, Google, Tradegate, XAct Solutions, Victoria University and the University of New South Wales.
The executive director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering said it was important for the logistics industry to work with leading scientists around the world.
“Building on our existing relationship with NICTA and drawing on a bedrock of world-class Australian research, we will work together to deliver greater scientific results and generate breakthrough technologies for market,” Professor Dieter Rombach said.
