Singapore, Malaysia ‘key centres’ for export

Singapore and Malaysia are the ‘key centres’ for future Australia export opportunities, according to Tim Dillon, the Victorian Government’s trade commissioner for South East Asia.

Both countries have begun to invest in critical infrastructure, which has led to export opportunities, he said. “The region is an ideal export market for Victorian businesses due to its close proximity, large populations and expanding middle class.”

In particular, the Export Development Strategies to Malaysia and Singapore report singled out food and beverage, particularly high quality products, and ICT as key sectors of future growth.

“In Malaysia, food and beverage opportunities are opening up in a number of areas. Singapore’s market is more mature, but the country’s high reliance on imports represents strong opportunities for Victorian companies,” said Dillon.
