Keeping pace with China vital to Australia

In an address to the Australian Industry Group’s ‘Trading with China: Beyond Risks to the Rewards’ event last week, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Anthony Byrne said Austrade was well aware of the importance of China and would do everything in it power to keep pace with its growth to enhance trade and investment opportunities.

“To match the rate of change in China, Austrade is refining its services to help Australian companies capture trade and investment opportunities within a rapidly changing economic landscape,” said Byrne.

“Austrade has sharpened its focus in China on areas such as energy and minerals, green building and clean energy, agribusiness, niche technologies, financial services, logistics, business and professional services.”

He noted that while global export volumes dropped 20 percent in the last 12 months, export to China increased by 30 percent, highlighting the importance of China to Australian trade. Byrne also flagged upcoming negotiations with China on a free trade agreement as a recent form of progress.
