Export Heroes honoured by Governor-General

Governor-General Quentin Bryce last night presented six individuals with the prestigious Export Heroes title for their services to Australian export.

Initiated by the Australian Institute of Export (AIEx), the Export Heroes program recognises the contributions made by individuals in strengthening the reputation of Australian goods and services. While the recipients are predominantly exporters, Heroes may also come from other fields that assist exports, such as politics or education.

The 2009/10 Export Heroes are:

  • David Gaul, CEA Technologies
  • Paul Henry, Populous
  • William Hutchinson, Thomas Electronics
  • Vivienne Lipke, Icecraft
  • Alan Oppenheim, Ego Pharmaceuticals
  • Max Schroder, IDP (for services to education)

AIEx chairman Loftus Harris said it was more important than ever that Australia focused on export considering that one in five jobs relies on the four percent of businesses that export.

Also honoured was the AIEx’s first Future Leader in Export, Felicity Sharp, international business manager at Ecotech, who helped the business enter the Latin American market, earning it the Latin American Business Excellence Award in 2009.
