Downturn changes business travel policy

Results from research conducted by Concierge Business Travel shows that the travel management policies of large Australian companies have changed since the global financial crisis hit.

The agency has seen an increase in the ration of low-cost fixed domestic fares purchased compared with higher-cost flexi-fares, from 58:42 percent to 74:26 percent.

“This represents a 28% increase in the use of discounted and cheaper tickets since October 08 and confirms our long held belief that the use of flexible airfares should be limited to a low percentage of a client’s travel program,” said Renos Rologas, general manager of Concierge Business Travel.

He also noted a switch from business class fares to economy fares on international flights and a 10 percent decline on average hotel room rates nationwide, bar Canberra.
