Australia seeks Pacific solution with Papua New Guinea
Minister for Foreign Affairs Stephen Smith will chair the Papua New Guinea Ministerial Forum in Brisbane today, along with Papua New Guinean counterpart Sam Abal.
Nine Australian ministers, including Minister for Trade Simon Crean, are included in the bilateral talks, illustrating the regard the Federal Government has of our Pacific neighbour.
“We will discuss a wide range of key bilateral issues including our Partnership for Development, the Kokoda Track and climate change,” said Smith.
He added that the forum would also address regional issues including the forthcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leadership meeting in Cairns in August this year, economic issues, such as the impact of the global recession, and allow engagement with business and industry representatives involved in the bilateral trade and investment relationship.
