Austrade offers assistance to disaster-affected exporters
Trade Minister Craig Emerson has announced Austrade will offer special assistance to disaster-affected exporters. Floods, cyclones and bushfires affected small and medium-sized enterprises over the Australian summer, damaging their profit margins and reducing their export capacity.
“While a broader recovery effort is underway, the Australian economy has suffered billions of dollars in lost output,” Emerson said.
He announced that some businesses directly affected by recent natural disasters would be able to receive selected Austrade services free of charge. “Austrade officials in overseas markets stand at the ready to help Australian businesses in their dealings with overseas buyers.”
Emerson said Queensland had been especially hard hit. The state accounts for 60 percent of coal exports and about 30 percent of Australia’s fruit and vegetable produce. He said it was Austrade’s role to ensure the world knew Australia was still trading.
“Through its on-the-ground expertise and its international networks, Austrade will reinforce the message that Australia is open for business.”
