Aquaculture exports on the increase
A report by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) shows the increasing importance of Australian aquaculture to our export revenue.
Export revenue from the sector grew $63 million, highlighted Minister for Fisheries Tony Burke, a rise of eight percent over a 12-month period.
“Aquaculture presents great opportunities for Australian fisheries to be part of the solution to world food security, particularly with the pressures on wildcatch fisheries,” said Burke, adding that aquaculture represented about 40 percent of the gross value of fisheries production.
