$500,000 allocated for international arts
Grants totalling $500,000 have been pledged to 18 Australian arts and culture projects in the latest round of Australia International Cultural Council (AICC) funding. Recipients include cultural institutions, commercial arts organisations and small group projects.
The funding supports arts and culture projects that promote Australia’s contemporary and dynamic image at an international level.
A joint statement by Minister for Foreign Affairs Stephen Smith and Minister for the Arts Peter Garrett announced that “the projects reinforce Australia’s image as a sophisticated and innovative nation, with a rich and diverse culture”.
Twelve of the 18 projects will be included in the Year of Australian Culture in China program, which will coincide with this year’s Shanghai World Expo in May. Future promotions are planned with the Republic of Korea and India.
